General educational information. Rules, coaching practices and safety requirements vary by sport, age, venue and governing body.
Start with a stable base
Good balance begins with posture, foot pressure and awareness of the centre of mass. Use simple positions before adding speed.
Change one variable at a time
Narrow the stance, move the arms, receive a ball or add a direction change. Too many challenges at once hide what needs improvement.
Practice both sides
Many sports create a preferred side. Balanced practice can improve options, but perfect symmetry is not required.
Make it sport-specific
Balance on one leg is different from controlling contact, landing, skating or changing direction. Progress toward the real task.
Keep safety simple
Use a clear area and stable equipment. Unstable gadgets are optional, not necessary.
