Team Communication

Share useful information clearly, early and respectfully.

General educational information. Rules, coaching practices and safety requirements vary by sport, age, venue and governing body.

Use short agreed words

Teams benefit from simple calls for time, pressure, support, switches or coverage. Too many phrases create confusion.

Communicate before the crisis

Early information gives teammates time to act. Late shouting often adds stress without helping.

Include non-verbal signals

Eye contact, hand signals, body orientation and movement can support verbal calls, especially in noisy venues.

Create psychological safety

Players must be able to ask questions and admit uncertainty. Mocking mistakes weakens communication.

Review team habits

After practice, identify which calls worked and where silence caused problems. Improve one habit at a time.
