Training

Training in Heat, Cold, Rain and Wind

Adjust plans to conditions instead of treating weather as a toughness contest.

General educational information. Rules, coaching practices and safety requirements vary by sport, age, venue and governing body.

Check the forecast and venue

Temperature, humidity, wind, lightning, air quality and surface conditions can all affect safety and performance.

Change duration or intensity

Shorten sessions, add breaks, move indoors or postpone when conditions are unsuitable. Follow organizer and local authority guidance.

Use appropriate clothing

Layers, visibility, sun protection and waterproof items should suit the activity without restricting movement.

Protect the playing surface

Wet grass, icy paths and slick courts can change traction. Inspect the area before starting.

Have a clear stop plan

Know where shelter, water, communication and responsible adults are available. Do not continue through dangerous weather.
